He’s Still Famous!
R. Kelly is back at it again and trending heavily with neck turning news. R. Kelly, head of a sex cult you say? R&B singer and star, Kells is being accused of being the leader of a sex cult where he controls the lives of six women who live in properties he rents, in the suburbs of Chicago and Atlanta. Reports state that R. Kelly controls what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe and sleep, and their sexual encounter…all while recording. We all know the back story of Kells and this isn’t too hard to believe. Is it? In the past, R. Kelly has been accused of making child pornography (later acquitted), sexual assault with minors, and having married Aaliyah (Rest in Peace) when she was the tender age of 15.
In today’s news, one of the women who is living at one of the properties has parents who are in a rage believing that their 21 year old daughter is being held against her own will and is being brainwashed. However, Jocelyn Savage speaks out against this stating that she ‘is in a happy place.’ In a press conference held in Atlanta, Georgia, Savage’s family states that they believe Jocelyn is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome and this is why she will not stand up and speak on what is really happening.
Although three other women have since reported that R. Kelly is running a sex cult for young women, Kells is fighting these accusations. Only time will tell! We are all shocked, or are we?
“We had a beautiful baby girl that was the best thing that's happened to me and soon as that baby was born Chyna was out”
Rob Kardashian posted on twitter just a few days ago. Rob made sure that he let it all out, even things Chyna didn’t consent to. A complete whirlwind relationship between Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna has risen to new heights, keeping everyone on their toes.
Just to catch you up. This past Monday, Chyna filed for and was granted a temporary restraining order against Rob who, without her permission, posted personal and explicit photos of her for all of social media to see. Rob accused Chyna of stealing money from him, cheating on him, and having getting pregnant with their daughter Dream, out of spite. He also claimed that Chyna is not a suitable mother to their daughter due to her alcoholism and drug addiction.
Let’s take it back to the beginning of this ‘beautiful’ love tragedy.
January 2016: Chyna and Rob begin dating
After a, now-deleted, photo of the couple cuddling went up on Chyna’s Instagram and it was made public that the two were an item. There was already trouble brewing in paradise because of the close connections between Chyna and the Kardashians. At the time, Kylie Jenner and rapper Tyga (Chyna’s ex and father of their son King) were dating. The tie is closer in other ways. Kim Kardashian and Chyna were friends, but the relationship grew apart when Kylie and Tyga began dating.
February – March 2016 Break-up rumors begin to explode on social media
A source reported to People Magazine that “Rob has fallen hard for Blac Chyna. She makes him super happy and this is the first time that he’s felt so optimistic about life in years.” Soon after, Chyna began posting photos on social media that aided in the rumors that she and Kardashian were engaged. Those rumors were replaced with break-up rumors one month later after Rob deleted all of the photos of Chyna from his Instagram.
The rumors continued, despite Kardashian and Chyna making appearances and taking trips together.
April 2016 – Chyna and Kardashian’s engagement is confirmed
By Amber Rose….yes, Amber Rose, Chyna’s best friend announced the couple’s engagement on Instagram using the hashtags #TrueLove and #putaringonitsouknowitsreal after sending her congratulations to the couple. The ring that Chyna wore in the congratulatory photo looked just like the one she wore back in February of 2016
May 2016 – Now
In May of 2016, Chyna announced she was pregnant with her first child and Kardashian’s first. She posted an emoji photo of herself holding her pregnant belly on Instagram. Soon after, summer time hit and more break-up rumors continued when Rob deleted, again, Chyna’s photos from his Instagram. In their reality show on E!, “Rob and Chyna”, an explosive fight ensued in the month of September and in November of 2016, Dream Renee Kardashian was born.
Let’s fast forward to the drama happening this month! Earlier this month, on July 5th, Kardashian posted explicit photos on Instagram of Blac Chyna that were sent to him privately. Now lawyers are involved and Kardashian has “notice” from Chyna’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom (she also represented Kathy Griffin in the Donald Trump scandal), informing him of the restraining order that has, of today, been filed and granted to Chyna. The notice stated:
Mr. Kardashian, you are now on notice: revenge porn is illegal. Cyberbullying your ex is harassment.
The drama continues as Blac Chyna tells the public that she was Blac Chyna before she met Kardashian and as Kardashian continues in a state of devastation.
Most recently, ESPN Magazine took a poll of the ‘world’s top athletes’ in the eight sport’s leagues to find out who the public believes to have the best bodies. Coming in with 43 percent of the female votes, Serena Williams takes yet another title, but this time for having the best and strongest body. Pro-tennis player, Williams, age 35, wins the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) title for 2017. While things are looking up for Serena Williams, Venus Williams is taking another path.
Older sister of the two, winning seven Grand Slam titles, has been blamed for a car accident that took the life of 78-year-old Jerome Barson. Venus is blamed for failing to yield-the-right-of way as she crossed into a Florida four way intersection, at approximately 5mph, reports state. Venus’ attorney stated that his client was not cited and was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. This scenario is likely leading to Williams not being criminally charged for the accident. Barson’s wife (the driver at the time of the accident) is taking a different approach and filing a lawsuit for wrongful death, believing that, star, Venus Williams was negligent and caused the death of Mr. Barson.
At an interview in Wimbledon, where Venus was preparing to compete, she broke down in tears after being asked about the accident and stated that “this is devastating…I am speechless.” Venus chose not to speak at any more interviews following and has not disclosed any other information, except for her condolences which she publically announced on Facebook. Venus wrote: “I am devastated and heartbroken by this accident. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers.”
Venus’ attorney revealed information that may prove Venus’ innocence. It has been reported that she entered into the intersection on a green light. As more information on the accident opens, the lawsuit by the Barson family continues, and Venus continues to compete for a title. Venus has taken matters into her own hands by filing an emergency court order against the Barson family. Williams has beat the first court case involving the death of Mr. Barson, and now has a protective court order that was filed and granted on July 5, 2017. This order is to prevent the family from harassing her, releasing sensitive and confidential information, or making unreasonable subpoenas and discovery requests.
At this time, Venus has yet to respond to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Barson family on June 30, 2017
“White people love making people sex slaves and shit.”
Broaden that statement beyond sex and this one-liner summarizes the entire movie.
Get Out, a movie by first time director, funnyman Jordan Peele, is anything but just funny as it pushes the envelope on racial tension. I mean really pushes it. In fact, I’m pretty sure that the envelope fell off of the entire table. If the first five minutes doesn’t have you slightly sinking with discomfort into your seat then I don’t know what will.
Peele begins the film with an intense but brief scene immersed in musical jump-cues usually reserved for 1980’s stabbing horrors by openly invoking the death of Trayvon Martin (as stated repeatedly in more than one interview), a black 17-year old killed in a gated community by a man who assumed he was a criminal because of his skin color.
As the movie progresses, the racial tension thickens and micro-aggressions become as common as the strange behavior of the characters. (If you’re black, you may find yourself occasionally looking around the theater to see the reactions of your white counterparts).
Without giving much of the movie away, Get Out touches on a lot of psychological issues and important social lessons that can be easily missed if you focus too much on the racial aspect of it. For starters, the reoccurring themes of weak social ties vs. strong social ties and action vs. inaction are blatantly overshadowed. There is a part in the movie where a young black man goes missing and instead of active searches for him, all that is mentioned are missing person posts and photos on social media. Almost immediately after the display of the posts, a joke is fired off by Rod, Chris’ black, comic-relief, TSA-employed best friend, side-railing any chance of the audience fixating on why people (especially his family) weren’t physically looking for him. (Sidebar: I’m pretty sure recruitment for TSA is going to increase after this movie. They made that job look awesome. Marketing done right. *thumbs up*)
As far as some of the psychological issues, if the main character, Chris Washington (played by Daniel Kaluuya who is most noted for his role in the Black Mirror episode “Fifteen Million Merits”) had previously dealt with his past emotional demons then he may have not been in a relationship with sociopathic-eyes, Rose in the first place. Chris’ sense of self-responsibility or lack thereof was lightly touched on during a scene where Rose, his girlfriend of only 4-months questions him about the efficiency of his packing then later stands up for him after having his license requested by a cop (He only had a state id. Why would you go on a road trip with someone you barely know and only have a state id? He might as well have given her a card with the words “here is all of the responsibility for my safety” scribbled on the inside and called it a day).
During one of the conversations between Chris and Rod, they poke fun at the avoidance of therapists, shrinks and hypnotherapists by Black people, further tugging at the lack of concern by many for professional mental health help.
(Sidebar: Actually, if all of the characters took mental health seriously and handled their insecurities…...there would be no movie…..so never mind).
Once the Armitage family turns sinister, it becomes a bit apparent that their motives aren’t necessarily based solely on race, despite how it appears.
Overall, Get Out is worth going to see. Depending on your own personal feelings, it has the potential to either spark an amazing dialogue or validate a tightly held prejudice.
Either way, it’s entertaining!
